Dinner tonight

Amsterdam · Saturday 1 August · checked live at 16:40 CEST · updated for Sara’s Andaz question and for Rob’s food

Rob, Ric and Sara are working at the hotel on Arena Boulevard, so the walkable list comes first and it is genuinely decent. Centre options are underneath if the mood changes — they are one direct metro away, not an expedition.

Rob's food — read this first

Rob is mainly vegan, partly vegetarian, and doesn't drink. That reorders everything below, so here are the places actually chosen on it rather than places that happen to have a salad. Nobody needs to plan around wine.
Oma Ietje — still the local pick, and now for a better reason
11 min from the hotel · kitchen 16:30–21:30
Best evidence of any option here

I read their actual menu rather than guessing from the cuisine, and the vegan dishes are marked as vegan by the restaurant: aubergine dengaku with miso glaze 13.8, Indonesian balado over fries or rice 13.5, fresh rice-paper rolls with tofu and hoisin 13.8, a homemade quinoa vegan Persian burger, sayur lodeh vegetables in coconut 6.8, frites with vegan mayo. That is a real vegan menu, not one dish grudgingly offered.

Vegan Temple Bar
Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 17 · 390 m from the Andaz · 4.7★ (2,243) · €20–30 · till 23:00
The central pickFully vegan

Closest thing to the Andaz on this whole page, entirely vegan, open late, and 2,243 reviews at 4.7 means it is not a novelty. If the evening moves into town, this is the one.

Hearth
Camperstraat 26H · 2.3 km · 4.8★ (3,185) · €30–70 · opens 17:00
Fully veganThe special one

The highest-rated vegan restaurant in Amsterdam by a distance, on more than three thousand reviews. Furthest and dearest of these, and worth a taxi if tonight is meant to be an actual dinner rather than a refuel.

Golden Temple
Utrechtsestraat 126 · 1.3 km · 4.5★ (1,574) · €20–40 · till 23:00

Vegetarian with plenty vegan, long-established, and an easy walk from the Andaz along the canal.

De Patchka
Albert Cuypstraat 89 · 1.5 km · 4.8★ (393) · €10–20 · till 22:30

Vegan, in De Pijp, and the cheapest of the good ones.

Maya, Indian Cuisine & Bar
Reguliersdwarsstraat 86 · 780 m from the Andaz · 4.8★ (993) · till 00:00

Not a vegan restaurant, but Indian is the cuisine with the deepest vegan bench, the kitchen runs to midnight, and Rob's favourite thing to cook is Indian food. I have not seen their menu, so that is reasoning rather than evidence — worth a phone call before you commit.

Everything else, walkable from Hoekenrode 1

11 min walk · 4.5★ (1,325) · €13–19 mains · kitchen 16:30–21:30, bar till 23:00
Best of the local lotBook a table

Sharing plates, world kitchens, big vegan section. Heesterveld — a small creative courtyard, outdoor seating, industrial room. Not a café despite what Google calls it: this is a proper dinner. They recommend two dishes per person plus a side.

Thai red curry with chicken 18.8 · Bavette & Thai salad 14.8 · Prawns en papillotte, dashi-soy broth 14.8 · Pan-fried salmon, teriyaki, mango salsa 14.8 · Aubergine dengaku, miso glaze (vegan) 13.8 · Korean bulgogi over fries 13.5 · Oma's Angus burger 13.5 · Fresh frites 5.9

Reserve on their site (Tebi, up to 12) or 020 233 8150. Kitchen shuts 21:30 — that is the number that matters, not the 23:00 closing time.

~11 min walk · Bullewijkpad 11-A · 10:00–23:00, seven days
Newly openedAir conditioned

Oma Ietje's French-Mediterranean sister, 200m from it and run by the same people. Brasserie — French classics with a sunny twist. Too new to have a review count worth quoting, so this is a recommendation by parentage rather than by evidence. The fallback if Oma Ietje is full, and the longer kitchen if you eat late.

Z.O Döner & Gril Point
10 min walk · Bijlmerplein · 5★ (472) · till 21:00
Halal Turkish grillFast

Döner and grill. The menu runs buns, wraps, kapsalon, döner box, Turkish pizza, chicken snacks and baked potatoes — I read that off their delivery listing rather than a menu card, so treat it as the shape of the place, not the full list. 472 reviews at five stars is not an accident. Closes earliest of the four.

I love smash burger
2 min walk · Johan Cruijff Boulevard · 4.8★ (159) · till 22:00
Nearest thing there is

On the boulevard itself. The don't-stop-working option.

Shut today — don't walk to these

Around the Andaz — Sara's ask

Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, Prinsengracht 587 · canal belt / Nine Streets
From Bijlmer ArenA: metro 54 to Waterlooplein or Centraal, then 10–15 min on foot or a short tram
Restaurant Watergang
Weteringstraat 41 · 850 m · 4.9★ (488) · reopens 18:00
The one to bookFine dining

Highest-rated proper restaurant anywhere near the Andaz, and it is a fine-dining room rather than a place you walk into. Shut between lunch and 18:00, so it needs a reservation and a decision now rather than at eight o'clock.

Mamas & Tapas
Hugo de Grootplein 6 · 1.0 km · 4.8★ (1,365) · €20–40 · till 23:00
SharingLate

Tapas, and the easiest of these with three people who have been working all day — order as you go, nobody has to commit to a main at seven.

Maya, Indian Cuisine & Bar
Reguliersdwarsstraat 86 · 780 m · 4.8★ (993) · €20–30 · till 00:00

Indian, close in, and the kitchen runs to midnight — the safest option if the working day drags and you decide late.

Reyhoon Persian
Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 93H · 550 m · 5★ (15) · till 22:30

Nearest of the lot and perfectly rated — on fifteen reviews, so call it promising rather than proven.

Near Centraal, if you come in by metro

Metro 54 from Bijlmer ArenA → Centraal · 17 min · no changes · every 5–7 min
Sprinter train does it in 16 min from platform 3
Babal
Halvemaansteeg 10H · 4.9★ (685) · €20–30 · till 00:00

Nepalese. Highest-rated thing open in the centre tonight, and the latest kitchen on this list.

Il Vicolo
Taksteeg 3 · 4.8★ (3,482) · €20–30 · till 21:15 only

Italian, and three and a half thousand reviews at 4.8 is a serious number. Early close — you would need to be on the 19:00-ish metro.

El Pimpi Tapas
Stromarkt 4 · 4.7★ (2,021) · €20–40 · till 23:00

Tapas, five minutes from Centraal. Sharing, late, and easy with three people who have been staring at a screen all day.

Ramen-Kingdom
Prins Hendrikkade 83H · 4.8★ (2,984) · €20–30 · till 22:00

Ramen, right by Centraal — the least walking of any centre option once you're off the metro.

Restaurant Argentalia
Warmoesstraat 35 · 4.5★ (3,036) · €20–30 · till 00:00

Argentinian steak. If it's going to be a proper sit-down dinner, this and Babal are the two with a kitchen open late enough not to rush.

My call: Oma Ietje at 19:00 if you’re staying put — eleven minutes on foot and a proper vegan menu, not an afterthought. If you’d rather be central, Vegan Temple Bar is 390 m from the Andaz and open till 23:00. If it's full, Café Pigalle is 200m further and open two hours later. Rob has a 06:25 taxi to Schiphol, so the centre is only worth it if you're stopping work for the evening properly.
